Cabinet Makeover
I had picked this DVD cabinet up from new in a warehouse closing down sale. I have had it for about 9 years and it was still in brilliant condition. Solid pine but stained dark brown.
I had wondered what to do with it to try to 'jazz' it up a little.
Now usually when I paint furniture, I am an undercoat and gloss paint girl, but somehow with this one I found myself being talked into using chalk paint by one of the men in the office.
I read everything that there was to read about this medium, there were lots of online reviews both good and bad.
I decided to give it a go.
After the first coat I knew that I had made a mistake and that this was not the type of paint that I liked to work with.
However having put on one coat I decided that I may as well bite the bullet and put on another.
The problem that I had was, that I had 'brush strokes' showing on the paintwork and I didn't like it.
So I lightly sanded down the second coat and then prepared to commit the ultimate chalk paint sin..........................use a roller.
For any chalk paint addicts out there..............yes I did, I put a third coat on with a roller!!!!
I let this dry and then waxed the cabinet, this is to give the paint some protection and also to give it a 'bit' of shine.
And here is the finished item.
I am still not sure that I like working with chalk paint but I have brightened up an old cabinet, giving it another few years usage ( or more if I decide to do something else with it).
Maybe I need more practice with chalk paint................................
............now what else have I got in the house that I can make over?????
