A vegan food find
So on Saturday lunchtime after the Yorkshire AGM, I wandered into Headingley to have a spot of lunch.
As a vegan, easier said than done.
I have often wandered past a small 'Mediterranean' café, called Mint but never gone in.
It has just started to rain so I headed inside thinking that at the least I could grab a coffee until the rain eased off.
I asked the owner if they did anything vegan?
Oh my dog!!!! I was shown the menu with a wonderful range of 'Mediterranean/Lebanese' food.
There was more selection than I could have imagined.
I was torn between the 'Fatoush salad' and the Lentil salad, I went for the fatoush and had a side order of harissa.
The owner told me that every Monday evening they do a vegetarian buffer which normally has 5-6 totally vegan dishes.
Not all the dishes are vegetarian or vegan, they do cater for meat eaters too.
So if you are near North Road, Headingley and looking for a taste of the Med, pop into Mint.
I know that I will be heading back there very soon.
Normally if you see me at cricket , I am loaded down with bags of food and flasks, enough to keep me ( and the other 100 people around me) fed for the day.
However when I flew down to Southampton recently I was obviously unable to take the 10 ton of food with me.
How would I survive?
Very well as it happened, I found one of the concessions in the ground and have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
I headed to Sanijha the authentic Punjabi take away now in their 2nd season at the ground.
I explain what I was looking for and the staff could not have been more helpful.
I finally settled on onion bahji and vegetable samosa for lunch with manago chutney.
They were packed into boxes for me and I headed off to my seat.
Imagine my surprise when I opened the boxes to 2 very large bahjis and samosas.
These saw me right through until the close of play .
The concession at the ground was busy most of the time, serving trays of curry & rice as well as pakoras and Sheekh kebabs.
It truly made a huge change from the usual 'carpet' burgers that are sold at other grounds.
Sanijha restaurants can be found in Shirley ( Southampton) and in Camberley.
I would highly recommmend
